The Scania L113CRL of the then TIBS came in two kinds of bodyworks, beginning in the year 1995. The first such fleet of 50 buses were fitted with Walter Alexander bodyworks and are powered by a 11 020cc Scania DSC1171 engine connected to a ZF 4HP500 transmission. They are registered in the ranges of TIB 0562C to TIB 0571B and TIB 0635B to TIB 0674M.
The following year, TIBS brought in again 15 more units of such buses to be fitted with Greek ELBO bodies. The transmission model is similiar to their Walter Alexander counterparts. However, these buses are powered by a 11 967cc Scania DSC11 engine instead. Initially non-aircon, they were retrofitted with Hispacold air-conditioning during SMRT's fleet upgrading exercise in 2002. They are registered in the ranges of TIB 0839E to TIB 0848D.
This fleet of 65 buses has been the subject of critisim by most of the general public as well as the bus enthusiasts for being a bus that "vibrates violently when idle". The ELBO fleet was even said to be a "sauna". As a result, the ELBO fleet of the Scania L113CRL would be one such kind of bus that would be withdrawn earlier than the expected lifespan expiry date.
TIB 0565U and TIB 0666L received orange-coloured LAWO EDSes. They were retrofitted with the new EDS as their old EDSes have been damaged during previous accidents. The former serves Service 966 (Woodlands to Marine Parade); the latter serves Service 960 (Woodlands to Marina Centre). |
